This interactive site-specific installation was created for Area 3, a drive-thru art exhibition that was held in a Dallas parking garage during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lines of text are projected in light onto six large, colorful satin ribbon curtains that hang across the garage’s driving lane. Visitors drive towards and then through each curtain with their vehicle, reading one line of text at a time, creating a poetic experience similar to a drive-thru car wash. The text is an adaptation of a quote from “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values” by Robert M. Pirsig. It reads: “THE FUTURE COMES … FROM BEHIND OUR BACKS … THE PAST RECEDES … BEFORE OUR EYES … THERE IS NO BEGINNING … THERE IS NO END.”
